The Anam Mui Ne delivers a foundation of hope in Vietnam
Tourism has the power to transform lives when it taps into the needs of local communities. This belief is at the heart of The Anam Mui Ne’s latest project in Vietnam, where the luxury resort has made a tangible impact by providing new homes to families living in unsafe conditions.
Bridging the gap between hospitality and community needs
While travelers relax along the stunning coastline of Mui Ne, just beyond the postcard-perfect views lie communities facing daily struggles. The Anam Mui Ne recognized this disparity and worked alongside the People’s Committee of Thuan Hoa Commune to provide three stable homes for local families in need.
These new houses represent a lifeline. One family, consisting of two disabled parents and a young child, had been living in a crumbling house they couldn’t afford to repair. Another case involved a farmer family of five whose house had deteriorated to the point of being uninhabitable. A third family, previously confined to a makeshift shelter with no proper toilet, now has access to the dignity of a safe home.
“Shelter is such an important fundamental, and it was so rewarding to speak with the families about how much of a profound change these homes have made to their lives,” said Mr. Pham Van Hien, founder and chairman of The Anam Group. “A home is more than a roof over your head – it’s where you and your family have a sense of belonging, and it’s crucial that a home affords security and comfort.”
The cost of building these three homes, totaling 240 million VND (approximately $10,000 USD), highlights how modest investments can have a significant impact. The relatively low cost of this initiative raises important questions about how other companies might prioritize similar community-focused projects.

More than a helping hand
This project is part of a broader philosophy that drives The Anam Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Mr. Hien to ensure that local communities benefit from the success of The Anam’s resorts in Vietnam. Their efforts go beyond surface-level philanthropy, aiming instead to create long-term changes that strengthen the foundation of these communities.
Through initiatives such as improving essential infrastructure, including clean water systems, sanitation, and transportation access; supporting local artisans by integrating their crafts into guest offerings; and providing vocational training in hospitality, the foundation builds opportunities where they are most needed.
The Anam Mui Ne and The Anam Cam Ranh contribute a percentage of their profits annually to The Anam Foundation, providing a consistent and impactful flow of resources towards various initiatives.
“As part of The Anam Group’s dedication to responsible tourism, luxury hospitality goes hand-in-hand with meaningful social and environmental contributions. By investing in the well-being of our surrounding communities, The Anam Foundation helps create a sustainable future where both the resorts and local populations thrive together,” Mr. Hien said.

Why this matters for travelers
If there’s a takeaway from this project for travelers, it’s the importance of supporting businesses that care about their local communities. Tourism thrives on the experiences, culture, and resources that these communities provide, yet they are often overlooked when it comes to sharing the rewards.
A strong example, like The Anam Mui Ne’s initiative, redefines what responsible tourism should look like. It’s not just about giving back but sharing the benefits of success equitably. And when travelers choose accommodations like this, they are contributing to a system where tourism uplifts rather than exploits.
Tourism alone can’t address every challenge, but it can make a meaningful difference. Thoughtful efforts like providing stable and safe homes or creating educational opportunities prove that the industry can be more than a transaction. It can drive sustainable development and support the people who make each destination special.
For visitors to Mui Ne, this is yet another reminder to choose wisely. Take a moment to ask questions like, ‘Does this business support its local community?’ or ‘How does my stay contribute to the well-being of the people who live here?’
Every choice shapes the future we want to see.
