From farm to table: The Anam Cam Ranh’s sustainable journey to freshness and flavor
On the beautiful shoreline of Cam Ranh, Vietnam, is The Anam Cam Ranh, a luxurious resort carving its path toward a sustainable future. This picturesque haven has made a commitment to environmental stewardship, dedicating 8,500 square meters of its beachfront property for sustainable farming. Carefully designed, the expansive farm not only provides fresh nourishment for guests and staff but also serves as an educational space where young visitors can learn and grow.
Cultivating freshness at every turn
The sight of lush green fields, rich with various fruits, vegetables, and herbs, greet you each morning at The Anam Cam Ranh.
From the farm to the table, the journey of these fresh ingredients is short and sweet. The Lang Viet Restaurant & Bar chefs and the staff kitchen frequently visit the farm to handpick the day’s produce for their culinary creations.
The farm is an abundant source of fresh produce, growing everything from leafy greens like lettuce and spinach to starchy roots like cassava.
The fruit orchard offers a selection of tropical delights, including custard apple, papaya, banana, mango, and more. The herb garden, too, is a treasure trove of flavors, hosting a variety of herbs such as basil, coriander, thyme, and mint that add a touch of freshness to the dishes served at the resort.
Engaging with farm life
The farm is not just about plants; it’s also a lively home to various animals, including ducks, chickens, geese, rabbits, goats, guinea fowls, turkeys, and peacocks.
These friendly creatures offer guests, especially children, an opportunity to engage with farm life in a fun and educational way.
Laurent Myter, The Anam Group’s general manager, emphasizes the importance of this interaction. As part of a supervised program, he invites young guests and their parents to visit the farm. The visit aims to learn more about sustainable farming practices and to interact with the friendly animals residing on the farm.
“Our team is genuinely keen to do its bit to educate youngsters about the need to tread lightly on the Earth, albeit in a fun and engaging way,” says Myter.
“Kids get a taste of life on a sustainable farm, rummaging around our greenery and patting the animals such as the baby goats,” he adds.
Lessons in sustainability
The Anam Cam Ranh is committed to teaching its guests about sustainability. Children visiting the resort learn to grow herbs and fruits at home without using harmful chemicals. They also learn to care for farm animals such as chickens and ducks.
The resort’s commitment to sustainability is also evident in its various environmental initiatives.
They have a water filtration plant that supplies water for 240 recycled glass bottles daily, thus eliminating the use of an estimated 87600 single-use plastic water bottles annually.
The resort has replaced plastic straws with ones made from rice flour and uses bamboo bags instead of plastic ones.
They even recycle laundry water for their gardens, use solar power, and conduct regular beach clean-ups.
The key cards provided to the guests to access their rooms, suites, and villas are made from sustainably sourced wood from forests managed according to sustainable forestry practices.
The Anam Cam Ranh isn’t just another luxury resort. It’s a place where guests can immerse themselves in a sustainable lifestyle, learning and experiencing first-hand how luxury and environmental consciousness can go hand in hand.
