Pak Din, a local fisherman, designed and crafted the Rumah Ikan Fish House using island-grown wood, making the fish house an inspiring testament to Langkawi’s vibrant fishing legacy.

The fishing method practiced at the Fish House is a rare art, says the resort in a statement.

“It is fast disappearing as modern, mechanized equipment gains popularity. It involves creating a complex structure that extends out into the sea, using strips and splints of wood.”

The resort has been working with Pak Din since last year to bring back this traditional style of fishing and let the visitors at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi experience it.

Langkawi’s unique living history

“Our ongoing partnership with Pak Din has played a vital role in preserving the precious fishing heritage of Langkawi. Now, with a genuine Fish House at our beach, we’re taking things one step further,” explains General Manager David Macklin. “We’re very excited to share the island’s unique living history with our guests.”

Situated at the resort’s mile-long stretch of pristine coastline, the Fish House and its untouched surroundings transport guests to a simpler, more tranquil era. This beautiful, secluded spot is where Pak Din spends his days, catching the Andaman Sea’s fresh seafood.

“I love to meet guests and share the fishing skills my father taught me, the same skills I’ve passed on to my sons. My favorite part is when people take a selfie with me. I feel so happy that our efforts are being seen and appreciated,” smiles Pak Din.

“The Fish House at the resort will not only sustain Langkawi’s indigenous fishing traditions but also introduce them to Four Seasons guests, thus ensuring that this quiet, homegrown art lives on in minds and hearts across the world,” says Director of Public Relations Kanchana Ganglani.

Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is tucked away within a UNESCO World Geopark, fringed with an amazing variety of natural wonders, from the tropical rainforest to limestone cliffs and the emerald waters of the Andaman Sea. Its beaches and seaside playground offer a refreshing place for those seeking bliss or adventure.
