Sip and save the forest with Cardamom Tented Camp’s new conservation beer
A unique conservation effort in Cambodia
Looking for a fresh take on conservation? Cardamom Tented Camp has just the thing—a unique conservation beer! Called “Cardamom Mountains Steam Beer,” this brew promises to delight your taste buds while helping save the planet.
‘Your Beer Keeps the Forest Standing’
Every time you crack open a bottle of this slightly hoppy, 5.2% ABV beer, you’re doing more than just enjoying a refreshing drink.
Profits from each sale go toward funding the important work of dedicated forest rangers. These rangers protect 18,000 hectares of lush, lowland evergreen forest within Botum Sakor National Park, Cambodia’s largest.
Since opening in 2017, the nine-unit award-winning camp has operated with the slogan “Your Stay Keeps the Forest Standing”.
“Now it’s the turn of beer drinkers to take one for the team and do their bit for conservation,” says camp manager Allan Michaud.
The perfect pairing with local Khmer cuisine
Michaud teamed up with Yuki Aotani, founder of Flowers Microbrewery in Phnom Penh, to perfect this unique brew.
Already a favorite among guests, this beverage is priced at just $4.50 per bottle at the camp’s riverside restaurant. Pair it with one of the local Khmer dishes from the menu for an authentic Cambodian dining experience.
“With local Khmer dishes also on our menu, we make it easy for our guests to enjoy food and drink that reflect the best of Cambodia. Almost everything we do at the camp helps with the conservation of the forest and supports local suppliers,” says Michaud.
More than just beer
Cardamom Tented Camp also offers other locally made beers, such as Ibis Beer, whose profits help protect the rare Ibis bird, and craft beers from Stonehead Brewery in Phnom Penh.
The camp’s commitment to conservation extends to the bottles themselves. It recycles previously used 330ml bottles for its Steam Beer.
Impact beyond the sip
The positive effects of these efforts are undeniable. Monthly contributions from beer sales and guest stays play an important role in reducing illegal poaching, land grabs, and riverbank sand dredging. By enjoying a bottle of this conservation beer at Cardamom Tented Camp, you’re directly contributing to these efforts and making a difference.
Recently, the camp added two Wildlife Alliance forest rangers, bringing their total to 16.
The results? An impressive 90% decrease in illegal hunting activities over the past seven years, with increasing sightings of endangered wildlife like Asian elephants, silver langurs, smooth-coated otters, and leopard cats.
Your support is truly impactful and giving these animals a chance to thrive.
