Alila Seminyak plants new seeds of sustainability with its hydroponic garden
It always feels good to stay in a property that offers an unforgettable stay experience and, at the same time, integrates sustainable hospitality into its services.
Alila Seminyak stands out as a prime example of a sustainable property, having earned its reputation as a pioneer in the field since it opened four years ago. Its strong commitment to sustainable tourism echoes in its efforts in implementing numerous sustainability initiatives and continuously innovating ideas to preserve the environment and the local community.
Alila Seminyak’s hydroponic garden
As part of its ongoing responsibility to the environment, Alila Seminyak has introduced its own hydroponic garden. This innovative approach to gardening involves growing organic ingredients in a water-based solution without soil.
With hydroponics, gardening can take place in almost any space, and it saves water by allowing roots to absorb only the amount that they need. The excess water recirculates to other plants in the system, and the system allows for precise control over the growth rate and nutrients of the plants.
Alila Seminyak uses the produce of its hydroponic garden in its day-to-day operational needs, mainly as ingredients in the dishes offered at the resort’s main restaurant, Seasalt.
The hotel also picks selected ingredients from its hydroponic garden to concoct Seasalt’s sustainable, ocean-inspired cocktails.
To complete the eco cycle, Alila Seminyak uses the treated wastewater to water the plants around the resort. This initiative is part of Alila Seminyak’s efforts to minimize its impact on the environment. It also exemplifies Alila’s commitment to sustainability.
